This year marks the 50th anniversary of the original airing of It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown; the beloved tale of Linus’s dedication to the mythical and ever mysterious Great Pumpkin. Every Halloween, Linus makes his pilgrimage to the pumpkin patch to await the coming of the Great Pumpkin with as much eagerness and hope that, for other children, marks the anticipated arrival of Santa Claus.
Well, you are older now Linus. I can safely tell you that the Great Pumpkin has been around, but not at the pumpkin patch. It resides at the bar.
The recipe calls for Southhampton Pumpkin Beer, which is not distributed down here so I went with Alewerks, out of Williamsburg, instead. I expected this to be a sweet drink but it wasn’t overly so. The whole egg gives it a creamy mouthfeel, be sure to drink it quickly since it is raw. Perhaps the Southhampton beer has more of the pumpkin pie spice flavor to it than the Alewerks.
I thought this one was good, it was just lacking some kick. Also, look! New glassware! I have stooped to new lows to provide you with some variety; I’ve spirited these spirits glasses away from my mother. Actually, she graciously donated them to me for the cause, there was no actual stealing involved.
